Litigation, Appellate Advocacy & Corporate Advisory

Founding partner, called to the English Bar (Middle Temple) in 1992 and admitted to the Malaysian Bar in 1994. His practice covers civil, commercial, banking, construction, insolvency and appellate litigation, alongside corporate transactions, property, trusts and restructuring. He appears regularly before the Court of Appeal and the Federal Court, and is also a Notary Public.

Early Legal Education and UK Litigation Training

After completing his secondary education at Chung Hwa Independent High School, Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur, Dato’ Arthur Wang pursued his legal studies at the University of Wales, United Kingdom, where he obtained his Law Degree in 1990. He was subsequently called to the Bar at the Middle Temple, London, in 1992.

Following his admission, Dato’ Arthur Wang commenced his pupillage at a leading Middle Temple chambers under the guidance of Queen’s Counsel Mr Gibson Grenfell. During this period, he gained valuable exposure to civil and criminal litigation, including matters before the High Courts and the House of Lords in the United Kingdom.

He was later seconded to the litigation department of British Telecom, where he handled contractual disputes, employment matters, and various litigation-related assignments.

Return to Malaysia and Development of Litigation Practice

In 1994, he returned to Malaysia to commence his pupillage with Messrs Raja Darryl & Loh, gaining experience in foreclosure proceedings, contractual disputes, and banking-related litigation.

He subsequently joined Messrs Michael Chen & Lee in 1995 as Head of Litigation, where he led and managed a diverse portfolio of matters involving banking, civil and commercial disputes, contractual claims, tort, matrimonial, and probate matters. His practice also encompassed bankruptcy proceedings, land disputes, injunction applications, and appellate matters before the Court of Appeal and the Federal Court.

Establishment of Practice and Professional Leadership

In 1997, Dato’ Arthur Wang established the present firm, Arthur Wang, Lian & Associates. In addition to his extensive litigation practice, he advises and represents clients across a broad range of areas, including property, estates and trusts, family law, insurance, construction, employment and industrial relations law, and criminal law. His corporate and commercial practice includes corporate reorganisations, venture capital and private equity, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, property development, strata management, and other complex commercial transactions.

He has served on sub-committees of the Bar Council and the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee – the Legal Profession Committee (2004-2008), the Professional Indemnity Insurance Committee (2004-2010) and the Kuala Lumpur Court Liaison Committee (2007-2009) – chairs the Risk Management Committee, and sits on the Bar Council’s panel of solicitors representing the Malaysian Bar.
