Early Legal Education and UK Litigation Training

After completing his high school at Chung Hwa Independent High School, Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur, Dato’ Arthur Wang proceeded to obtain his Law Degree from the University of Wales, United Kingdom, in 1990. He was admitted to the Bar at Middle Temple, London, in 1992.

Upon his admission, he began his pupillage with a prestigious Middle Temple chambers under the guidance of Queen’s Counsel, Mr Gibson Grenfell. During this period, he gained extensive exposure to civil and criminal litigation, including matters heard before the High Courts and the House of Lords in the United Kingdom.

Dato’ Arthur Wang was subsequently seconded to the litigation department of British Telecom, where he handled contractual disputes, labour matters, and litigation-related work.

Return to Malaysia and Development of Litigation Practice

In 1994, he returned to Malaysia to commence his pupillage with Messrs Raja Darryl & Loh, assisting in litigation matters involving foreclosures, contractual disputes, and banking-related issues.

He joined Messrs Michael Chen & Lee as Head of Litigation in 1995, overseeing matters relating to foreclosures, banking, civil and commercial litigation, contractual disputes, tort, matrimonial, and probate matters. His work also included bankruptcy proceedings, land and contractual disputes, injunction applications, and appellate matters before the Court of Appeal and the Federal Court.

Establishment of Practice and Professional Leadership

In 1997, Dato’ Arthur Wang established the present practice of Arthur Wang, Lian & Associates. In addition to his extensive litigation practice, he advises on non-contentious matters involving property, estates, trusts, family law, insurance, construction, labour and industrial law, and criminal law. His corporate and commercial advisory work includes corporate reorganisations, venture capital and private equity, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, property development, strata management, and other complex commercial transactions.

He remains actively involved in the Malaysian Bar, having served on various sub-committees of the Malaysian Bar Council and the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee, including the Legal Professional Committee (2004–2008), the Professional Indemnity Insurance Committee (2004–2010), and the Kuala Lumpur Court Liaison Committee (2007–2009). He currently sits on the Bar Council’s panel of solicitors representing the Malaysian Bar.
